Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts to success in mainstream music failed, two distinct record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before they released any songs. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007 which garnered some interest due to its fun and frivolous title track. "I Didn't Kiss a Girl was a more aggressive ode to sexism, accompanied by a hard edged electro-pop rhythm. The song quickly stirred controversy as some critics derided its promotion of same-sex relationships as well as others argued that the graphic scene it decried aided male fantasies of female sexuality. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single due to the combination of excitement and an elegant tune. It was also instrumental in driving sales for her 2008 album called of the Boys. of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's lively and sharply-tongued album that included its second top-selling single, was a hit. The album which Perry wrote herself sold more than 3 million copies.
